University Extravagance
Victoria University will be showing its extravaganza 1945, “Peter in Blunderland” at the Palmerston North Municipal Opera House on May 18 and 19. The funds are to bo devoted to Manavvatu’s patriotic quota. The Extravaganza met with a phenojnenal public reception in Wellington, hundreds being turned away each night. This burlesque travesty on “Alice in Wonderland” is the best entertainment the students of Victoria University College have given for years, being more comical in its political implications, ingenious in its use of the passing show, and distinctly more vulgar than any of the predecessors. There is no argument about this last conclusion, as the author and producer, Ronald L. Meek, in the course of his apologia frankly indicates its presence, as he, with becoming modesty* places himself in the Boccacio, Shakespeare, Ben Jonson class. At the same time no one with the necessary breadth of mind will fail to recognise capital entertainment in “Peter in Blunderland, ” which was received, for the most part, with uproarious laughter, as the students caper through their parts. The box plan is open at Collinson and Cunninghame’s.
