Channel Islands Free at Last
Received Friday, 12.30 a.m. LONDON, May 10.
A task force of British troops is now in full control of the Channel Islands. The German garrison of 20,000 surrendered yesterday. The Islands were occupied in 1940 by the Germans.
About 40,000 of the islanders escaped to Britain, bringing with them many of their famous Jersey cattle, but 60,000 remained and suffered many privations. The Germans slaughtered all livestock on the islands, including horses.
