The Plunket Committee meets this afternoon in the Library building at 2.30 o ’clock.

Mrs. T. H. Groome, who has been a visitor to Palmerston North for a week, returns to her home at Haturna to-day.

Over the week-end Mrs. Powell’s concert party visited Wanganui to give a performance in aid of the Air .Force Queen in conjunction with the Queen Carnival for patriotic funds. This is the second time within the last few mouths this party has been requested to raise money for patriotic funds and both times before most appreciative audiences.

Before commencing the business of the annual meeting of the Manawatu Federation of Women’s Institutes yesterday, the president, Mrs. T. D, Lynch (Linton) made sympathetic reference to the passing of Mrs. Peter Fraser. The wife of the Prime Minister had shown a keen interest in the movement, attending council meetings and conferences when possible. She was a gracious lady, tlio president said, asking the meeting to stand a moment in silence.

After being on leave in the Dominion for some time Mrs. A. P. Chapman, daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. T. H. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay, is to return overseas to continue service with the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. For more than three years Mrs. Chapman served with the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. in the Middle East and was mentioned in dispatches for her work there. She has been staying with her mother in Hastings and has recently returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs. E. Bettington, in Sydney. The third birthday party of the P. and T. Women 's League was held recently, when members and friends gathered for a social. Enjoyable items were given by Alison Malcolm (dances), and Mrs. Shearman (elocutionary items). Competitions were won by Mesdames Hubbard, Middleton and Rendle. During afternoon tea the birthday cake was cut by the president, who had kindly donated it. As a mark of respect to the late Mrs. P. Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister, members stood for a moment in silence.-
