Greyhound Racing

The following Palmerston North dogs competed at Hastings last week-end. The track was in good order and some good times were registered for the 565 yards. Lomond (Mr. H. D. Prentice) won the novice event by a head from Benny Boy (Mr. C. G. Riches) who dead-heated with Fire Escape (Mr. J. Fraser, Auckland). Lomond and Benny Boy challenged Fire Escape who looked the winner entering the straight. Time, 32isec. Benny Boy finished third in the novice consolation, won by Fire Escape. Time, 33sec. Bombardier (G. H. Whiting) was fourth in the consolation for novices. Bombardier was third in the Puppy Stakes, second heat, for dogs under IS months, which was won by Escapade (Mr. J. Bradbury, Marton) in 32£see. Escapade won ,tho final in 32 l-ssec. Bombardier was beaten by a head in the Maiden by Lady Helen (Mrs. L. Wall, Hastings) in 33sec. Lady Helen was well in front entering the straight. Southern Cross (Mr. C. Riches) received a bad check just after the start, and never galloped with her usual dash after that, and finished fourth in the open race which was won by the dual winner on the day, Ambitious (Watt and Coanop, Hastings), in 32sec., the fastest time for the day.
