Athletic Meeting in Feilding

With record entries from competitors featured in Wellington, Alanawatu, Woodville, Wanganui and Taihape fixtures, the Feilding Amateur Athletic Club’s sports fixture to take place on Kowhai Park on Saturday promises to excite widespread interest. Feilding competitors include a number of talented performers who will undoubtedly demonstrate their qualities against the visiting contestants. At Cook’s Gardens, Wanganui, on Saturday last Joe Allen, Feilding’s most prominent cyclist, won the big event of the year, the 10-mile human paced cycle race, a performance which places him among the noteworthy performers of the Dominion in amateur athletics. He also won the mile cycle race. Also of Feilding, J. Keneven, a promising sprinter, ran second in the 100 yards open event, while another Feilding performer, N. Reid, won tho 440 yards event and ran second in the half-mile run. Reid is new to the field of amateur athletics and his performance in the 440 yards at Wanganui was outstanding for one who had never previously contested this distance. Ilis venture in the SSO yards event demonstrated his qualities and he should be followed with interest on Saturday. The programme for Saturday -will be a full one of 31 events including heats. The despatch of the races will call for much organisation and tho committee anticipates that it will be able to handle the situation and keep the crowd well entertained. A loud speaker service will be available and the gathering should prove one of unusual interest. A dance in the evening will conclude the meeting.
