RANGIOTU The February meeting was presided over by Mrs. Andrew, who welcomed a large number of members and friends. . The afternoon was spent in staging the ■ first flower show with 325 entries so J all had a busy time. A hearty vote of 1 thanks was carried by acclamation for L the judges, Mesdames Will, Croucher r and Fell. The show was open to the ! public in the evening and a dance w T as ■ held in the main hall. Several further nominations for the Institute executive were received and some names handed in for Oroua Federation executive. Several members were anxious to lake advantage of Airs. Alaybee’s generous offer of bulbs. The president’s letter from Home and Country was read. Those who had helped with wool articles and with staging for display in the Feilding Show were thanked. Members were reminded of the Circle meeting on February 21, when Alajor Evans would be the speaker and of the annual meeting in Afarch. Alembers were asked to bring forward suggestions for the 1945-46 programme. Donations were received for the parcels’ fund. During the afternoon, an entertaining talk was given by Miss Frazer, who told of some of her experiences in London as an exchange teacher and of trips arranged in England and on the Continent. Competition awards were: Slice Christmas cake, Airs. Billett 3, Airs. Funnell 2, Airs. Bismark 3; gladioli, Airs. Billett 1,2 and 3. Hostesses were Alesdames Sinclair and Bismark. WHAKARONGO Airs. Eagle presided over the February meeting, there being 28 members present and one visitor. After much discussion, it was decided to visit the esplanade on the morning of the 21st and Massey College in the afternoon. Members were reminded of the social evening to be held in the P.D.C. and quite a number signified their intentions to bo present. Airs. Johansen, convener of the gardening circle, spoke of the flower show which is to be held in the near future and finalised arrangements for same. Soldiers’ parcels for this month go to Sergt. Satherly and Pte. R. M. Dawson, to be packed by Mesdames Cator and Johansen. The date of the school picnic was announced and a donation of one guinea will again be made. It being the annual meeting next month, nominations for the new committee were taken. At the conclusion of afternoon tea, Airs. Eagle, ou behalf of those present, made a presentation to Airs. E. T. Smith, who is shortly leaving to take up residence at Awahuri. Airs. Smith, who is one of the most popular members will be very much missed. Competitions resulted: Best bloom, Alesdames Oxenham 1, Green 2, Satherly 3; pompom dahlias, Alesdames Smith 1, Oxenham 2, Wood 3, Mrs. Spall judged the blooms. MAKING The February meeting was held recently and was well attended, Mrs. I). W. Reid presiding. Airs. Reid spoke of the fine exhibit tho Institute had staged at the Feilding Show. She congratulated members on gaining first place and thanked all members who had helped in any way. The programme for March was given out as follows:—Competition: A darn in a man’s sock to be done at the meeting; roll call; suggestions for competitions for next six months. Hostesses will be Alesdames Sandbrook, Ritchie and Ilislop. Birthday greetings were extended to four members, Alesdames levied so that we know what we can expect from the board’s activities. Air. R. L. Harding, county engineer, offered the suggestion that extensive willow planting on a big scale should be under way now before any cuts were put in. This would tend to prevent any subsequent erosion as the willows would be well established. If this were done there would, he visualised, be a substantial saving in cost. Mr. McKay admitted the wisdom of the suggestion and said that the board’s engineer may have that idea in mind. The chairman thanked Air. AicKay for attending the meeting and giving the council some information as to tho board ’s plans.

As this meeting was also our flower show, business was speedily dealt with and at the conclusion, afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses, Mesdames Thurston, Lamberton and Baker. Tho Alarch meeting is to be held in the hull and as this will be the annual meeting, a full attendance is requested. The Iceland Poppy competition will be held as usual next month and members were reminded of tho bring and buy stall in aid of soldiers’ parcels.
