In Woodville during August, 1914, there were 13 births registered, no deaths and no marriages as against six births in August, 1943, no deaths and two marriages. Mrs. Captain Gray, who is a native of Sweden, will be giving a recital on “Sweden and its Folk Songs,” in the Salvation Army Hall on Thursday night. Mrs. Gray was a resident of Stockholm for many years, and came to New Zealand eight years ago. Mrs. Gray, with her small daughter Astrid, Will appear in the picturesque Swedisli national costume, and will delight all who attend. While using a circular saw in a local factory recently Mr. M. J. Benge ha<l the misfortune to come in contact with the machinery, with the result that the thumb and index finger of his right hand were severely injured. He was taken across the street fo Mr. N. A. Fausett’s and first aid treatment given till Dr. Mules was located. At the doctor’s surgery it was found necessary to amputate the first joint of the index finger, the bone being too shattered to heal satisfactorily.
