American vanguards from Nice are reported to have crossed the ItalianFrench frontier at Ventimeglia. “The Seventh Army Americans with the occupation of Valence and Bourg de Peage in the Rhone Valley advanced to some 50 miles south of Lyons,” states an Allied communique. “Strong pressure is being maintained against the retreating enemy. “The French moving southwest to the Spanish frontier are also advancing up the west bank of the Rhone and have 1 entered Montpellier, Beziers and Narbonne.
