88 Whales for Season
The whaling station at Te Awaiti has now closed down for the season with a tally of 88 whales to its credit. This is less than last year when the century mark was topped, but is considerably better than the early indications suggested. Vital Statistics During August, there were 76 births registered with the registrar in Palmerston North, compared with 68 in August, 1943. Deaths last month numbered 85, which was a decided improvement on 41 for August last year. There were 26 marriages (the same as in August, 1943) of which 7 were performed by the registrar.
