Horticultural Society

The annual meeting of the Woodville Horticultural and Industrial Society was held recently, there being present: president, Mr. S. Turnbull; secretary, Mrs. R. L. James; Mesdames B. Hutching, Smith, Terry, Waruock, Bib by, Miss Peebles, Messrs Mills, Walker, Jamieson and H. Nicholls. It was resolved that the Society take their turn at the Patriotic Shop and also that the November Show be held on the 'last Thursday in November. Three new classes will be added, namely, Calendulas in the cut flowers section, and in the decorative section, vase of flowers and a presentation box of flowers with lid for posting. It w T as also agreed that last year’s profit of £35 be equally divided between the All Purposes Appeal and the Red Cross Funds. All officers were re-elected with the addition of Mesdames Bibby and H. Nicholls to the committee. The annual report voiced regret that the public did not patronise the shows better. Quite a lew of the Society’s members had passed away, two in particular being Mr. J. Nicholas and Miss J. Beattie, ootii of whom helped with exhibits at shows and gave of their knowledge at all times. Mr. Turnbull was thanked for the large fruit cake he donates each year; Mr. H. Pilcher was thanked for carting; Mr. H. Nicholls for tables; Mr. Whittington for auditing and all others who have assisted the Society in any way throughout the year.
