Notes of the Day

Two Victory Bond selling stalls are to be provided* in Feilding through the cooperation of the military authorities. It is anticipated that these will be available for use to-morrow when one will be placed adjacent the Post Office in Manchester Square and the other adjacent the Money Order Office in Fergusson Street. Members of the W.W.S.A. organisation have undertaken to provide personnel for duty in these stalls.

At the Feilding Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday before Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., the Fordell Timber and Case Co. Ltd. were lined 30s and costs 12s for operating an unlicensed goods service. In a judgment summons T. Syme, of Feilding, was ordered to pay V. H. F. Foote tne sum of £37 Os, being arrears of rent, in default one month’s imprisonment, warraut to be suspended so long as defendant pays 15s per week in reduction of the arrears together with costs £1 11s Od.

On Sunday evening next the Baptist, Presbyterian, Salvation Army and Methodist Churches are uniting in Feilding for worship. The service will be held in the Tivoli Theatre, which has been generously made available by the management. It was felt to be in keeping with the spirit of the day that the Christian congregations should unite in prayer and dedication. The Mayor and councillors will attend, and an invitation is extended to residents to be present as well. The preacher will be Rev. A. M. Ferguson, M.A.

A point about National Savings in Feilding in connection with the Victory Loan, made at recent meetings, concerns the aim to increase the number of subscribers. Compared with some 6000 Post Office Havings Bank accounts there are only 2055 .National Savings accounts. It is considered that this gap between the total of the respective accounts could be bridged if the public at large, comprising the majority of small investors, diverted a portion of their earnings towards establishing a National Savings account. The Feilding War Loan Committee is particularly anxious to induce greater support for National Savings and hopes that during this campaign people will realise the substantial benefit existing subscribers are creating for themselves under this excellent scheme of savings against the postwar future.
