ONE SITTING MEMBER RETURNED The result of the Manawatu County elections proved to be a landslide against the sitting members at Saturday’s elections, the chairman, Mr. W • El Barber, being the only councillor to retain his seat. Mr. D. W. Reid, the sitting member for the Mount Stewart Riding, has lost his sea£ by the bare margin of two votes. The final figures will not be available until the official recount takes place. The new Councillors are Messrs B. R. Henderson (Sandon Biding), B. S. Lawrence (Mt. Stewart Biding), E. N. Rowe (Waitohi Biding), C. S. Hunt (Rongotea Biding), NL. Remnant (Carnarvon Biding) and Boy Craig (Kawa Kawa Biding). Messrs Jas. Boyce and M. E. Perreau, the two sitting members on the Palmerston North Hospital Board, have been re-elected.

The election of one member to the Manawatu Catchment Board resulted in Mr. S. W. Barber, of Moutoa, winning the seat with a clear majority over Mr. F. J. Foster (Taikorea), the only other contestant.

All arrangements for the poll worked smoothly and the results from the IS polling booths were in the hands of the Returning Officer, Mr. A. K.
