The Late Constable Gillard, of Kimbolton

The funeral of the late Constable Benson Gillard of Kimbolton took place to the Feilding Cemetery yesterday afternoon when members of tho Police Force, the E.S.A., and the Foresters’ Lodge took part in the proceedings. The widespread respect in which the deceased Constable was held was reflected in the representative gathering which included members of the Apiti K.S.A and also the Feilding K.S.A. Following a service at Kimbolton where the late Constable Gillard resided for several years, the cortege proceeded to Feilding where it was joined by members of the Police Force and the Folding K.S.A. as well as local Foresters. Police Inspector Capp (Palmerston N.) together with Senior Sergeant Bomsch, Sergeant McCrae and Sergeant E. H. Turner (Feilding), Sergeant Brown and Constable Bowley (Marton), Constable Johnson (Ashhurst), Constable McAlpine (Bulls) and about 20 constables took up positions at tho head of the cortege just before the Feilding police station was reached. Members of the Feilding K.S.A. also joined at this point and the. cortege then proceeded on its way to the cemetery via Manchester Square. Members of the Apiti K.S.A. under Mr F. Prujean acted as pall-bearers at the residence and at the cemetery tho pall-bearers wero Constables McCormack, McGlynn, McAlpine, Hickey, Johnson and Hansen. The K.S.A. servipo was taken by Mr F. J. Allen (president of the Feilding branch) while 1..A.C. A. Donaldson sounded the Last Post.
