LAMB VALUES BETTER THAN EXPECTED

FAT SHEEP BELOW SCHEDULE The first live stock sale of the New Year in Feilding yesterday attracted a large offering of store lambs when opening values were better than expected particularly in view of the dry spell. Fat sheep changed hands at prices which were below schedule while fat cattle were firm at the closing rates of last year. There was no business done under the hammer for the short offering of station cattle although one pen changed hands privately. Fat Sheep Itound about 700 fat sheep including lambs and over 400 ewes were offered with realisations as follows: Fat lambs, 16s, 16s lOd, 23s Id, 23s Cd, 25s lOd to 26s Id; fat ewes, 27 at 13s Id, 24 at 13s 4d, 5 at 12s 4d, 11 at 16s 4d, 3 at 12s 7d, 12 at 10s 4d, 4 at 15s, 12 at 14s Id, 25 at 14s, 24 at 14s, 38 at 12s Id, 26 at 10s IQd, 99 at 13s 4d, 66 at 103 Id, 34 at 13s Id and 21 at 10s 4d; hoggets, 3 at 21s 7d, 3 at 25s 7d; wethers, 16 at 245, 17 at 245, 21 at 22s 7d, 6 at 20s 4d, 5 at 22s 7d, 20 at 22s lOd, 16 at 20s, 14 at 22s lOd, 3 at 15s, 19 at 21s lOd, 30 at 23s Id, 7 at 19s 4d, 24 at 22s Id, 18 at 18s 7d; blackfaces 24 at 22s lOd, 20 at 22s 4d, 7 at 20s Id. Store Sheep | Store lambs were yarded well up to | advertised numbers and the tone from the outset was somewhat better than was expected in face of the prevailing conditions. The bulk of the offering of approximately 7000 head comprised shorn w r ether lambs there being a few pens of blackfaces and one or two pens of 2-th wethers which sold w T ell. The realisations were:—Wether lambs, 146 at 12s 7d, 133 at 12s 6d, 210 at 13s 2d, 110 at 13s, 52 at 17s Bd, 77 at 17s, *J4 at 7s 7d, 19 at 10s, 23 at 6s 9d, 100 at 10s, 342 at 13 s 4d, 80 at 8s 2d, 125 at 13s Id, 34 at 6s, 63 at 4s, 78 at 6s, 100 at 14s 3d, 2U at 7s 4d, 75 at 12s Id, 142 at 17s 7d, 294 at 16s Id, 106 at 13s Bd, 310 at 17s 4d, 107 at at 13s Id, 324 at 13s 4d, 121 at 13s 7d, blackface lambs, 120 at 16s 6d, 48 at 9s 3d, 93 at 6s 3d, 65 at 13s 9d, 56 at 16s 6d, 40 at 16s, 16 at 8s 8d; 2-th. wethers, 98 at 19s Gd, 65 at 225, 74 at 21s, 74 at 20s Id. Fat Cattle Several pens of station cows and heifers were yarded in the beef section where values remained at rates comparable with thoso prevailing at the final sale of last year. The market was quite active and practically the whole of a good entry was disposed of. Prices were: —Station cows, £7 2s 6d, £7 15s, £B, £8 2s Gd, £8 7s 6d, £8 12s fid, I£B 17s 6d, £9 12s 6d to £9 17s 6d; j heifers, £7 32s 6d, £8 2s 6d, £8 7s 6d to £8 17s Gd; runners, £4; ex-dairy * cows, £2 7s 6d, £3 7s 6d, £3 12s fid, £4 7s Cd, £4 17s Cd, £5 12s 6d £5 17s Cd, £6, £G 17s 6d to £7 12s 6d. Store Cattle ' There was very little offering in the store cattle pens, boner cows selling at from 10s up to £4 and bulls realised as follows: £4 10s, £4 15s, £5 to £6 355. Dairy Cattle Business in the dairy cattle section was practically at a standstill, there being only a few entries selling as follows:—-Springing heifers £3 10m; springing cows £5 15s to £6 7s 6d,
