Gallery for Girls

LONDON. The Ministry of Labour is to try the use of photograph albums to convince “doubting” employers that girls and womeu can do almost anything in the engineering line. Marty employers who go to employment oxchanges refuse to accept women in their factories. So for months officials of the Ministry have been collecting aud sifting thousands of action photographs of women in engineering. Hundreds of these photographs are now put in two volumes—rather on the lines of the “family album”—and copies have been distributed to exchange managers, technical officers and labour supply inspectors. It is the Ministry of Labour’s tribute to those women who are tackling a mansize job. The purpose is modestly decribed: “To assist in convincing employers that women can be employed on a range of w-ork not usually considered within their scope.” The volumes will not be seen by the public. They are “reference books” entitled Women in Engineering—A Dilution Handbook.

The illustrations show the. thousand-and-one jobs which women to-day are doing in skilled engineering.
