Suicide of Former Italian War Chief
Received Friday, 1.20 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 16.
The German-controlled Rome radio stated that Marshal Ugo Cavallero committed suicide. He was formerly Italian Chief of the General Staff and resigned in January. The Fascist radio added: “He was freed from captivity but was unable to bear the burden of dishonour and shameful treachery of his country.”
