W.D.F.U. Meeting at Feilding

An excellent attendance was at the meeting in the Feilding Community Centre yesterday of the Wellington Central Provincial of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union. An important matter for consideration was the question of the taking over for conversion into rest homes, two homes, one at Nelson and the other at Waimate, and after much deliberation, it was agreed that both homes should be taken over. An extremely interesting feature of the gathering was an exhibition of woollen garments made by members of the provincial branches from home-spun and dyed wool. These were for competition and the judges, who found difficulty in making awards owing to the general excellence of the work, were Mesdames Aidworth, of Silverhope and Mclndoe, Palmerston North. There were articles in wide variety from the daintiest of baby clothes to garments for men of the Merchant Navy, all made from wool spun from the fleece in thicknesses of one to four ply and it was really a revelation to know that every garment in the magnificent display had been spun direct from the fleece, dyed and knitted into such

useful articles of apparel by members of the five provincials represented at the display. Mrs. Arkwright, of Marton, gave an interesting talk on the Merchant Navy and emphasised that men of this branch of the services preferred homespun garments in which the natural protective oils had not been destroyed.
