Palmerston North Girl Guides’ Association

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The eighteenth annual meeting of tin- i Palmerston* North Girl Guide Association was held yesterday, Mrs. L. Buie, a viceprcsideiil, presiding in the absence of Airs. F .T. Nathan (president). The chairman said she felt all present had the move ment at heart and those in charge were grateful for this support. Mrs. J). \V. .Mills (Divisional Commissioner) presented tlie district report which covered the activities comprehensively and disclosed that there were 2SG registered Guides and Guiders in the district which extends from Foxton and -Marlon. Two Guiders, Aliases Bowden and -Merlon, attended a training week in Wellington and tinwhole district had benefitted by sharing the new material brought back. The report stressed (be need for small compan.\ camps in the district. Guides had collected rags, books, safety pins, buttons, had made hussifs, camouflage nets and small tinhat net covers. Brownie* and Guides had also filled Christmas stockings f"t distribution by the district nurse. During Hie year 123 proficiency badges, G 7 seconn class and 7 first class badges bad been won. Thanks were expressed to Ales dailies E. C. Barnett and F. J. Nathan for the use of t.heir gardens for different events. Miss AI. Appreciation was expressed by the chairman of the keen interest taken in the movement by Mrs. Nathan who was always ready to give the use of her home and her services. She felt the association could be eongrat ulated on the progress made and the close attention to its affairs by Miss Warren. Mrs. Bale made feeling reference to the loss to the movement by the resignation of Airs, G. A. Eliott as District Commissioner. Those closely associated with her knew what time and energy she had pui into the work which she loved. Moving that appreciation of her services to guiding be placed on record. Mrs. Bale expressed the hope that she would soon be restored to health and able to lake an active part once more. Appreciation was expressed of the enthusiasm of -Mrs. Mills who had had to carry the burden ot organisation, and thanks to the Guiders for their cooperation. .Mrs. Mills returned thunks to the committee on behalf oi tHo Guides and Brownies, ami to Airs. Bale for presiding. Discussion on general matters concluded the meeting. Prior to the unnual meeting there was a short meeting of the executive committee, Airs. E. W. -Mills (Divisional Com missioper) presiding. Airs. Mills reported that Aliss AI. Bergin, Commissioner for Training and Camping, would visit Palmerston North next week to meet Guiders. The Guiders’ week-end had been most successful and thanks were due to Mrs. Cobs and Miss E. Merton for passing on all they had learned at Wallis House training week-end. The secretary reported receipt of a donation of JLD from the Palmerston North Rotary Club which was gratefully received, a letter of appreciation to be sent. Sympathy with Airs. A. D.
