Outstanding Success of Scottish Society’s Dance

The popularity of the Manawatu Scottish Society’s functions was evidenced on Wednesday last when over 1000 dancers thronged the A.N.A. ballroom for their charity dance. Heralded in with stirring music by the Highland Pipe Band playing round the Square and leading off the Grand March, the dance could not fail to be the outstanding success of the season. There were two orchestras to keep the dancing ‘non stop’ interspersed with music by the pipers, the programme proceeding with a swing from start to finish under the capable direction of Mr. R. Sinclair as M.C. Acting chieftain, Mr. Hill-Motion, who was accompanied by Mrs. Hill-Motion, offered a welcome to the visitors, and Mr. W. Carter returned thanks to the Society on behalf of the Manawatu branch of the Crippled Children Society, which is to benefit from this fine effort, and commended this generous gesture to a worthy cause. Other chieftains present were Messrs A. McDonald and W. Cruden. Supper was served buffet style under the expert control of the ladies’ committee with the assistance of Mesdames J. McMillan and Watson of the Thistle Club.
