Te Awe Awe Boy Scouts
At the annual meeting and parents’ evening of Te Awe Awe Boy Scouts, the chairman (Mr. C. G. Moore) extended a welcome to Major C. Hyde, C.F., and Mr. N. D. Stubbs, former Scout Commissioner for tho Manawatu district, also to Mr. Richardson, Scoutmaster of Sanson, and members of his I troop. The Cub pack and Scout troop gave demonstrations, and Major Hyde gave a talk on his experiences with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East. Major Hyde, who was first Scouter for All Saints’ troop and later Scout Commissioner for Gisborne district, stressed the value of Scouting in his wartime experiences and stated that tho knowledge of practical Scouting meant a great deal to a soldier especially in the desert, where cooking utensils had to be improvised. Major Hyde spoke also of the bond which united Scouts the world over, relating how he had come in contact with Scouts m Greece and the pleasure and fellowship enjoyed. A presentation was made on behalf of the Te Awe Awe Scout Group committee to Mr. Stubbs. Mr. Moore, chairman of the committee, in presenting Mr. ■Stubbs with a book autographed by the committee, spoke of the long service rendered by him. Mr. Stubbs had been Te Awe Awe’s ilrst chairman nearly 21 years ago. In his reply, Mr. Stubbs stated that he would always take an interest in the To Awe Awo Scout Group. Major Hyde occupied the chair for the election of officers. He spoke highly of tho work accomplished by the Cuomistress, Miss S. Tait, and assistant Cubmistress, Miss Stratford, and Scoutmaster, Mr. J. Wishart. The Scout report showed that the roll now stood at 38 and that excellent progress had been maintained in all branches and that the troop leader and patrol leaders were effectively learning and applying the qualities of leadership. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr. C. G. Moore; secretary, Mrs. H. G. Drake; treasurer, Mr. G. Albrecht; committee, Mesdames Albrecht, Moxon, Murray, Miss Tait (C.M.), and Messrs Cook, Murray, Wishart (.S.M.), Waugh, Gil lard, Madden, with three now members, Messrs Fyfe, Johnstone and Williamson. The chairman congratulated the secretary and treasurer on their excellent work throughout the year. Moving pictures were shown by Scouter Bichardson, assisted by tho troop leader.
