Sir James and Lady Hutchinson, of Dunedin, are visitors to Feilding and are the guest of Mr. and Mrs. D. Brewer, of East Street. The Manchester Street School Committee met on Tuesday, when the headmaster (Mr. F. J. Gaze) reported that the attendance had been reasonably good. He also referred to the large number of ’staff changes experienced during the past month. Term examinations are in progress at present. For Navy Week, the children collected well over £3O, while they are also conducting an egg collection for Air Force shop day. Arrangements are being made for children to be supplied with cocoa at lunch-time. Thanks were extended to Mr. P. Maeguard for work on the school grounds. Cupboards for the storage of sports gear have been provided, ana also 40 tables and chairs for Form i. There has been a good response to the circular regarding dental clinic matters, and it was reported that £4O had been collected in one week towards the cost of the buildings, which are to cost £I2OO. The Government subsidies amount to the extent of two-thirds of the total cost, and the local schools are expected to find £4OO. So far £l5O is in hand. Metal has been spread at the Warwick Street entrance to the school.
