Wattle Season
Wattle, with its golden flowers, is now in its full glory in many parts of New Zealand, adding a splash of vivid colouring at a time when the average New Zealand shrub is not in flower. There are many varieties of wattle, just as thero are many of New Zealand’s veronica. On one occasion, when an Australian bowling team was visiting Auckland, the suggestion was made, in jest, that instead of the golden kowhai, the wattle should be accepted as New Zealand’s national flower. The visitor said that wherever they went in the Dominion they were greeted with, “ What ’ll you have!”
