Sympathy witTi Mr. and Mrs. Neil Campbell, of Kauwhata, in the loss of their sou overseas with the N.Z.E.F., was expressed at yesterday's meeting of tho Manawatu Provincial executive of the Union. The news of the death of Mr. A. J. Arnold, of Cambridge, at the ago of 70 years, will be received with regret by many old-time residents in the Rongotea district. The deceased gentleman was in business as a butcher there over 40 years ago, and later carried on with dairy farming. A frequent visitor to Rongotea during the years since he went north, Mr. Arnold kept in close touch with many of his former associates. Mcsdames E. Tantrum and V. Arnold, of Palmerston North, are daughters of the late Mr. Arnold. t Mr. William E. Monks, of Church Street, whoso death occurred in Palmerston North recently, was born in Tasmania 07 years ago, and came to New Zealand about 1898. He took up tailoring in Bulls and subsequently Levin. Ten years ago he came to Palmerston North, where for some time ho was engaged in his trade, but owing to illhealth he was obliged to retire. Mr. Monks was a member of tho Hokowhitu Bowling Club anil in his younger days belonged to tho Rangitikei Rifle Club. He is survived by his wife and a family of six—Petty-Officcr W. Monks (overseas), Mr. J. M&nks (Lyndhurst Street), Gunner T. Monks (overseas), Private J. W. Monks, Mrs. .1. Mason (Ferguson Street), and Mrs. P. Deck (Paraparaumu). There arc also seven grandchildren, Mr. Noel Monks, tlio well-known English .-journalist, is a cousin of the late Mr. Monks.
