Mussolini Preparing For Tunisian “Dunkirk”

Mussolini has mobilised a “Dunkirk” fleet of small craft which has taken up positoins on the Sicilian coast ready to evacuate civilians immediately the Axis position in Tunisia collapses, according to a neutral businessman who has arrived in Ankara from Milan. The situation in Southern Italy is already critical. Trade communications have ceased in some areas and discontent is spreading, especially in Naples, Salerno, Palermo, Cotrone and Catania where huge anti-Government demonstrations occurred. Frequent riots followed in the town of Calabria in Sicily after a food shortage and the dislocation of railways caused by raids from Malta-based planes.
