Warrants of Fitness After discussing the question of the issuing of warrants of fitness for private cars once a year instead of every six months, the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce concluded that the proposed change had not sufficient merits in it to bo prosecuted further. Liquor Near Dance Hall Before Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court 3'estcrday, Mervyn Joseph Cooper was lined £3 with 3s costs for having liquor in his possession near a dance hall. His Worship intimated that he would be increasing tho fine for this offence in the future. Youths in the Army The Palmerston North Chamber ot Commcrco last night viewed with alarm the absence of some prompt action to take youths between 18 and 20 years ot age out of the Army and get them rehabilitated. It was decided to stress before the Associated Chambers of Commerce, the need for urgent action. E.P.S. Transport Section At 5.15 a.m. yesterday, a secret callout of all units of the E.P.S. transport section in Palmerston North was held. Within half-an-hour every member ot the section had been communicated with and by G.lO a.m., all were assembled at the various points. At G. 30, they proceeded to Rangitikei Street and assembled there as a complete section for dismissal. Among the 200 vehicles that took part were cars, trucks, buses, break-down lorries, and ambulances. A Judge’s Will The fact that tho will under discussion had been signed by the testator on his wedding day was mentioned by counsel during the hearing of a widow's application in the Auckland Supreme Court. “In all my experience,’’ said Mr. Justice Oallan, “I have known ot only ono other case of a will being signed on the day of marriage, and that was my own.’’ His Honour explained that he was going away that day, and for that and other reasons, he found it advisable to take this course.
