An earth tremor was felt in Feilding at 1.35- a.m. yesterday, the intensity being sufficient to disturb sleep. No damage was reported. Yesterday’s Patriotic shop in Feilding realised a sum of over £57. The proceeds are to be devoted to soldiers’ parcels.

The parade of the Feilding Battalion of the Home Guard which was to havo taken place in Feilding this afternoon has been postponed until a date in March.

A number of members of tho Southern Hawke’s Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club visited Feilding on Wednesday for the purpose of witnessing a demonstration of bacon production.

Tlie illness of Mr. B. J. Jacobs was referred to at a meeting of the Feilding R.S.A. on Thursday when it was decid ed to send him a letter of sympathy and to express the hope for his speedy recovery.

Discussing parcels forward by citizens to troops overseas at Thursday’s meeting of tho Zone Patriotic Committee in Feilding, it was stated that those parcels wrapped in newspaper invariably failed to withstand the handling from posting to delivery. The Patriotic Board officials accordingly advised strongly against parcels being wrapped in anything but cloth or very strong brown paper.

The fact that the collection of patriotic funds in the AVellington province was Undertaken with practically no cost was emphasised by Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick at a meeting of tho Zone Patriotic Committee in Feilding on Thursday evening. There was an impression that officials were paid and he wished to make the statement that no payment was made for the services of those who controlled the activities. The secretary of the Feilding Patriotic Society was not paid, nor was the secretary of the Zone Committee, while the secretary of the AVellington Provincial Patriotic Committee did not receive any remuneration, apart from a small office allowance, despite the fact that he had a full time job. Mr. C. H. Tate (Zone Secretary) agreed that there was no payment for services whatsoever.
