Soviet Troops Now Set the Pace
Received Wednesday, 11.55 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 27. The Times’ Moscow correspondent saythere is a significant difference in the battle of Stalingrad now and last September. The Germans sought a broader front in September and now they are endeavouring to narrow it. It is the Russians who are now forcing the pace from the north-west and south of the city. The battles north of Stalingrad went on all night undiminished in violence with the enemy not gaining any advantage. The Germans are constantly throwing in reinforcements which serve no more than to compensate for colossal losses. Heavy fighting is continuing at Mosdok and Novorissislc when the Storm Troop Vikihg Division was so badly mauled that It retired to the rear to reform. The Berlin radio describes the Russian resistance In the Caucasus as truly fanatical.
