Cricket Season Opens on November 14
ARMY TEAMS TO COMPETE At a special meeting of the Alanawatu Cricket Association last night, it was resolved that entries, to close on Monday week, be invited for a senior and junior competition to be commenced on Saturday, November 14. Mr. A. AI. Ongley, president of the M.C.A., was in the chair and delegates were present from a number of military units. It was reported that the military authorities were anxious that the soldiers in camp should be given every opportunity of playing cricket and also that there would be sufficient teams to warrant the playing of competitions. High School will be entering teams and Air. Fred Hubbard is to make inquiries and report on the prospects of a combined team or teams from the city clubs. The next conference is to be held on Wednesday, November 11, and practice wickets are to be prepared for the Army, to give the different units a chance of finding out what “cricket talent” is .available.
