Magistrate’s Court

Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided at yesterday’s sitting of the Palmerston North Alagistrate’s Court. J. T. O’Eegan, farmer, of Kairanga (Air. G. E. Rowe), was lined 10s, with 12s costs, for not having a warrant of fitness for his car. He also pleaded guilty to charges of having failed to give way to traffic from the right and with failure to rejrort an accideut. The fine was £1 for each offence, costs on the first one being £1 5s and on the second 10s. H. Abraham, a Territorial, of Awapuni camp, was convicted and fined £2 with costs for having liquor at a dance hail. For riding unlighted bicycles U. N. and P. E. Barnett were fined 10s and 10s costs. On a charge of riding three abreast, the former had to pay an additional 5s with costs 10s. For riding an unlighted cycle L. T. O’Reilly had to pay £1 with 10s costs. C. J. bowery, licensee of the Commercial Hotel at Ashhurst, charged with 'selling liquor alter hours, was convicted and fined £3 with 10s costs. Richard Johnson, farmer, of Ashhurst, and E. O Brieu, larrncr, of Mang&hao, were each fined £1 and costs lUs for being found on licensed premises alter hours. Irwin’s Bakery, Ltd. (Air. I*l. H. Oram), pleaded guilty to a charge of selling short-weigiit bread and was convicted and fined £3 and 10s costs. T I Harold Duncan Greer, farmer, of Tiritca, through his solicitor (Air. A. AI. Ongiey) pleaded guilty to charges of failing to furnish returns of income and of Jaud. In respect to the income returns he was convicted and fined £3 with 10s costs, and in respect of the land returns he was convicted and fined £2 and 12s costs and £5 3s solicitor’s fee.
