Canada’s Fast-growing Strength
FIVE DIVISIONS READY SIXTH BEING MOBILISED (British Official Wireless.) Received Wednesdav, 9.20 p.ra. RUGBY, Aug. 12. Following yesterday’s statements by Mr. Angus Macdonald regarding the growth of the Canadian Navy, information published in London shows that th# Dominion’s land forces show an equal expansion and that the Canadian Army will shortlv have the greatest divisional strength of its history. The present total strength, including troops boti at home and overseas, is about 220,000 men and further volunteers are being recruited at the rate of 7000 a month. The first and second Canadian divisions have been in Britain for some time and part of the third division and other troops arrived recently in the largest convoy yet to leave Canada. Th# last of the third division and the fifth armoured division are due to leave during the next few months. The fourth division is stationed in Canada and a sixth division is now being mobilised. During the last war Canada raised five divisions but the fifth was broken up for reinforcements.
