Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. Board Meeting
At the monthly board meeting held in the club rooms, there were present Mesdames C. A. Small (chair), R. Jamieson, Pearce, J. Barsanti, Iv. Dean, E. C. Barnett, P. Flood, F. C. Major, W. Phillips, G. G. Priest, B. Elphick, Misses Forrest, Grigor and M. Greenwell. Apologies were received from Mesdames Jolly and Javans. The opening devotions wero then taken by Miss Mary Greenwell (general secretary). She took as her subject three watchwords, specially suitable to a board of directors—vision, faith and courage. She said that without these three qualities the work of a board would not make progress, nor would they be able to seize the opportunities awaiting it. t Mrs. Small welcomed Mesdames Barsanti and Pearce as new members of the board and hoped they would enjoy tho work together. Mrs. Pearce responded, thanking the board for the invitation. Mrs. Jamieson (treasurer) presented the accounts and statement of the past month. The correspondence included invitations to Miss Greenwell from the sister associations of New Plymouth, Auckland and Wellington in the near future for short deputation work in those centres. The annual street day which is to be held in October was discussed in connection with the girls’ fair. It was decided to combine the two efforts. Coming events were announced and arranged for—Mothers ’ Club social- - tho jumble sale was postponed until September 26. Tho monthly bridge party will bo held on September 9. Hostesses chosen were Mesdames Smali, j Elphick and Jamieson. An “At Home’’ ' for Miss Mary Greenwell, the newly , appointed general secretary, was arranged for September 16 in order to give her the opportunity of meeting the women members of the association and other women of tho town. A report was 'given by Miss Greenwell. She congratulated the board on i the real lifo that was in evidence among i them and though the girls’ groups * were small, they had much loyalty and t enthusiasm. A report written after i such a short period must bo in tha nature of observations of the work and i making comments and criticisms accordi ingly. We must thing of our work in 1 relation to the community in which wa : live, said Miss Greenwell. For the next two months she would bo making a sur- ; vey of the district, which would help tc ■ tabulate knowledge of the city. | The meeting closed with the Benediction.
