Comforts for Men Of Merchant Navy

SPLENDID RESPONSE MERCHANT SEAMEN FUND The citizens of Palmerston North gave a splendid response on Thursday to the appeal which was made to provide coiuxorts for the men of the Merchant Navy tkrougu the Wellington branch of the Mission to Seamen. Sellers of badges were at work all day and very few indeed were the people who did not make a purchase. The total amount raised in the street appeal was £3OO 4s Od, and in addition several of the schools contributed amounts, and one sent in a quantity of goods. A street appeal heid in Feilding produced £3O 17s lid. In addition to the sale of badges in Palmerston North, many donations towards the fund were received and altogether the generosity of the people indicates how deeply they appreciate the self-sacrificing service rendered by the men of the merchant marine, particularly in time of war.
