(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. Jos. Batchelar Honoured. At the euchre evening run for soldiers’ parcel fund a surprise was sprung on Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Batchelar wheii Mr. Jack Higat called on Mr. T. D. Lynch to pay a tribute to Mr. Batchelar for the valuable services rendered to the lvairanga County as a councillor for the past 20 years. Mr. Lynch spoke on the sterling qualities of Mr. Batchelar as a local body member, a settler and a neighbour. Mr. and Mrs. Batchelar had been e'er ready to help with all activities for the welfare of the district. Mr. Lynch assured the ratepayers that in Mr. Batchelar they had a worthy representative on the Hospital and Power Board. Councillor Hopcroft, y chairman of the lvairanga County, also paid a tribute to Mr. Batchelar for the valuable services he had rendered the district as a councillor over such a long term of office and for some lime as chairman of the County. On behalf of the ratepayers Mr. Lynch asked Mr. Batchelar to accept a weather glass suitably engraved. Mr. Batchelar thanked the ratepayers for their appreciation of the services he had given the district as a local body member. The work had always been a pleasure to him and his motto had always been the advice given him as a very young man from his mother, “If you cannot do men a good turn, do not do them a bad turn.” On behalf of himself and Mrs. Batchelar he thanked all present for the enjoyable evening and the gift which would always be associated with pleasant memories and appreciation of the honour paid them both. Miss B. Curren presented Mrs. Batchelar with a shoulder spray and Mr. Batchelar with a buttonhole. Musical honours and supper brought a very enjoyable party to a close.
