Wait-and-see Policy Gains at Vichy

Admiral Darlan is taking full lor Vichy’s general in Airica. Marshal Papain in « decree announced that Darlan is sending directions to General Weygand whereby general Weygand is compelled to work under Danan. M. de Brinon told the Paris press that the policy of collaboration between France and Germany will not oe broken. it is reported from the French frontier that the latest developments in Vichy are interpreted as a considerable success for the supporters of the wait-and-see policy over the colla oorationists. Vichy is expected to accede to German lequirements regarding Cabinet changes, but it is understood Marshal Fetam intends to maintain his rejection of the German demand for collaboration iu North Africa. French industrialists are believed to be wondering if they cached the right horse in expecting a German victory and to be now considering how to secure a position either way. In this connection information reacning London indicates that the Vichy Uaoinet meeting on August 2 was stormy owing to differences of opinion as to the prospects of a uerman victory against Russia. French uncertainty is evidenced by reports of widespread sabotage. According to the Moscow radio, French guerillas derailed a train with 15 petrol waggons bound for Germany and also destroyed 200 German lorries and an oil depot. In addition, big German army petrol stocks disappeared at Roulers.
