Saturday’s Rugby
WOODVILLE TEAMS DEFEATED At the Recreation Ground on Saturday both the Woodville thirds and the seniors suffered defeats, the former by Athletic and the seniors at the hands of Hukanui. The recent rain made the going very heavy. The thirds were defeated by six points to nil, the visitors’ points coinirfg from a successful penalty kick and an unconverted try. The local boys appeared to lack their usual combination, possibly due to the sticky conditions existing. The seniors’ game was hard and willing throughout and several times injured players suspended play, one of the visitors being assisted from the field during the second spell. Christian opened the scoring, Hill’s kick being unsuccessful. For Hukanui, Murch scored the first try, to be followed shortly afterwards with a try 15V W. Twentyman, who converted his own try. Neither side raised any further points, and the game ended: Hukanui 8, Woodville 3.
