Famous Buildings Damaged in Air Raids
SALVATION ARMY HEADQUARTERS DESTROYED Received Friday, 12.36 a.m. LONDON, May 15. It is revealed that Lambeth Palace, Queen’s Hall, Saint James’s Palace, Saint Clement Danes and the Old Bailey were damaged in the recent raids. The .international headquarters of the Salvation Army were destroyed, with I most of the records. The London j Philharmonic Orchestra lost thousands I of pounds' worth of instruments at (Queen’s Hall. | The Old Bailey, at which two porters were killed, was damaged for the third time since the war began. It is revealed also that the Liverpool Technical College, the public library, museum and other buildings have been damaged in air raids. Ilt can now be revealed that a big time bomb came down in Fleet Street in
the recent raid a few yards from the Australian Associated Press Office which with the neighbouring buildings has been temporarilv evacuated. Damage by bombs to Westminster School includes the destruction of the 200-year-old dormitory where the King’s scholars slept and where the historic Latin play took place every December. Serious damage was done to the great school room where the annual j ceremony of tossing the pancake took place while the panelling in the big hall I with the memorial containing the names of old Westminister boys has been destroyed.
