Malta’s Heaviest Raid Yet
ROCK DEFENCES KEEP CASUALTIES LOW Received Thursday, 8.45 p.m. MALTA, May 1. A large formation of Junkers and Messerschmitts attacked Malta. One of the Junkers was destroyed. Civilian property was heavily damaged, particularly an important business thoroughfare. Eight civilians were killed and 19 seriously injured. It w r as Malta’s heaviest raid. Malta has been consistently raided all the week. Last night a strong defence was put up by guns and fighters. The rock shelters kept the casualties low.
