Call to Church People

*■*■ "V X oupio In his report to the annual meeting of parishioners of All Saints’ Church on Tuesday evening the vicar, Canon G. Y. Woodward, said the year had been one of deepest anxiety for our Empire was engaged in the most destructive war in human history. It had led us all, and rightly so, to take a more serious view of life and to find our strength and stay in the Church of God. We were accustomed to hear from Church and State that our Empire was fighting for its very existence and that for the moment our civilisation was in the melting pot. When we sat still and thought it out wo knew it to be only too true. If we relied merely on material forces our hopes would diminish and fears increase and we would soon fall into a state of despair; but we belonged to those who knew and firmly believed that spiritual forces were so mighty that when God brought them to our aid there was no power on earth that could withstand them. The call to all church people was to pray for those spiritual forces and this we did when we met together in intercesofy prayer.
