Monetary Co-operation With China (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, April 26. Described as “a further important step in the field of monetary co-opera-tion between the United Kingdom and China and symbolising the friendly relations between the two countries, “an agreement has been signed to-day in Washington on behalf of the British Treasury and the Government of China. The agreement, announced by the British Embassy at Washington, allows the carrying into effect of the British Government’s offer last December to the Chinese Government of a credit of £5,000,000 to cheek the undue fluctuation in sterling of the Chinese yuan, an offer which followed the setting up of the £5,000,000 fund guaranteed by the British Treasury for similar currency stabilisation. The agreement closely parallels another also signed to-day involving the establishment by China of the use of the dollar and Chinese yuan by the United .States to the amount of 50,000,000 United States dollars. The stablisation funds will be managed by a board set up by the Chinese Government and will consist of three Chinese, one American and one British. An indication of the progress of the Napier deep-sea harbour development works was given by the chairman of the Napier Harbour Board, Mr. T. M. Geddis, at the monthly meeting of the board. Mr. Geddis said that the dredging programme had reached a stage when the harbourmaster was prepared to handle vessels drawing up to 28ft.
