(From Our Own Correspondent.) Anzac Day Service For tho Anzac Day parade and service the largest muster to date was witnessed. The parade moved off from thj ! baud room at 10.15 a.m. under the com !mand of unit commander H. W. White I head of the Ashhurst Home Guard, with ■tho Palmerston North Pipe Band leading. The procession comprised of Returned Soldiers, Homo Guardsmen of the. various units of the Gorge Buti lalion, members of tho Red Cross and the Legion of Frontiersmen. The salute was taken by the area commander, Air. Cioclietto of Palmerston North. The ser- | vice was conducted by Rev. A. J. Farineil, while the address was given bj Colonel Closey, officer commanding the Gorge Battalion of the Home Guard. At the close of the service wreaths were deposited on the soldiers’ graves in the local cemetery. Quito a largo number of local members paraded in the Palmerston North procession during the afternoon. Defence Rifle Club The shooting in tho Ashhurst Defence Rifle Club’s competitions were continued on .Baturday when some good scoriing resulted despite a dull light and a ! strong left wind.
