Free Service for Outpatients
NO UNDUE STRAIN ON WELLINGTON HOSPITAL Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 23. The institution oi tfie free service for out-patients has not yet caused auy embarrassing increase in the number ot those attending for treatment at the Wellingon Public Hospital, said the medical superintendent (Dr. J. Cairney) to-day. “There was something of a rush for the first day or so, but it has now settled down and we are carrying on much as usual.” Dr. Cairney said there had been no occasion to open additional clinics or increase the staff. The Wellington Hospital had always had a large outpatient department, aud in the general section, before the free service was introduced, the casualty officer and two house surgeons attended sis mornings a week, and thev continued to cope without difficulty with the demands for treatment.
