No New Car Models for 1943
DEFENCE WORK MUST TAKE PRECEDENCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, April 19. General Motors has announced that in the interest of defence they are making no 1943 passenger models and will continue the 194:2 model. General Motors’ announcement that they aro eliminating the yearly model change in 1943 automobiles in the interest of defence work is likely to be followed by the remainder of the motorcar industry. All companies manufacturing motor-vehicles have pledged their fullest elforts for defence production, therefore the Journal of Commerce believes all will forego tho 1943 model changes. Concerning this, a Ford spokesman said: “The defence programme comes first.” Chrysler said the 1942 model was not yet out. Defence work was taking precedence over everything. Automobile prices aie expected to rise 5 to 10 per cent, owing to the 20 per cent, reduction of output agreement.
