AIEETING OF WOMEN’S SECTION i . There w r as an excellent attendance of delegates at the annual meeting of the . I women’s section of the Alanawatu , branch of the National Party on Friday •evening, Mrs. B. R. Spence presiding. .''The following sub-branches were represented: Feilding, Ashhurst, Awahuri, Carnarvon, Colyton, Halcombc, Pohanginn, Rongotea, Sanson, Whakarongo. In presenting the annual report, the president thanked all delegates for ■ the keen interest taken by them in tho 1 j pffairs of tho party and for the wondor1' ful support accorded her during her j term of office as president. Reports j from the sub-branches showed that I keener interest than ever before had jbeen in evidence throughout the electorate. Airs. R. H. Buchanan on behalf of those present, thanked Airs, Spence for the great work she had done jin the interests of the party. Reports Jon the divisional conference held in (Palmerston North were given by Mesi dame i Spence and .T. Williamson. The election of officers resulted: President, Airs. B. JR. Spence; vice ! presidents, Alesdames J. Williamson and iW. E. Pearce; secretary and press c.crrespondent, Aliss Al. Smith; treasurer, Airs. Bruce McLeod; delegates to divisional conference, Mcsdames Spence ! and Williamson; delegate to Wellington divisional conference, Airs. Spence. The meeting extended a cordial welcome to Hon. J. G. Cobbe, ALP., who gave au in teresting talk on party affairs. It was decided to write to Flying-Officer E. W. Barnett, of Hajcombe, congratulating him on liis selection as candidate for the Alanawatu in the interests of the National Party, and assuring him of the whole-hearted support $f the organisation. An opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Aliss Joan Cousins who did not seek re-election as secretary in view of her approaching marriage. In making the presentation on behalf of the executive, Airs. Spence said that Miss Cousins had been secretary continuously since the inception of the organisation and (luring that period had fulfilled her duties ably and well. Airs. Spence expressed her thanks for the wonderful record established by Miss Cousins and wished her every success and happiness in the future. Mrs. Williamson also thanked Aliss Cousins for her efforts during her term of office as president and added her good wishes. Aliss Cousins suitably acknowledged the remarks and gift. At the conclusion of the business of the meeting afternoon tea was served. "-•-
