Girls’ High School Parents’ Association

The first meeting of the year wa: held on Monday evening, Mr. J. Sankey in the unavoidable absence of Mr. T. P Hart, presiding over a good attendance

A number of seats for the grounds donated by tho association were well in hand, but owing to shortage of timber could not yet bo completed. The cabinet for the gramophone records, also donated by the association, was now installed satisfactorily. The painting and renovation of the school swimming baths was discussed and it was decided that if the department would pay half the cost, say £42, the association would pay the balance. Other repairs to the baths mentioned at the meeting were held over for later report. A letter was received from the Board of Governors thanking the association for their donations to tke school and for the continued interest in its work. Cash statements were presented covering the period to December 31, showing £32 being cash grants to school, £22 for material and furniture. Donations to patriotic funds from pupils and

staff £6B, donation of association to patriotic funds £47, a total of £lls. The total general expenses for the nine months amounted to the small sum of £1 18s 9d.

Mr. Wilson handed in his resignation from the position of secretary-treasurer owing to pressure of business, and thanked tho chairman and committee for their heip and support during his period of office. It was resolved that his resignation be received with regret and that tho thanks of the association be accorded for his services.

Mrs. L. E. Doel was unanimously appointed to the position. It was decided to alter the meeting night from the first Monday to the first Wednesday in each month, and, at the invitation of Miss E. E. Stephens (principal), resolved to hold tho annual meeting at the School Assembly Hall on April 23, and that after the business was disposed of, a social evening be spent with entertainment by the pupils. Mrs. Whittaker was very heartily thanked for her donation ox a cake for competition. It was decided that out of the patriotic moneys collected by the school gifts to overseas soldiers related to the pupils and also to old girls now overseas in the Army Nursing Service be sent from the school.
