A fine sunny day encouraged the attendance for the gala day held in aid of school funds. Tho stalls were in the hands of tho following:—Cookery, Alesdames Kilgour, H. Jensen and L. Clark; produce, Alesdames A. and G. Collisj sweets and ice-cream, Alesdames K. Prousc and D. Prentice; meat, Alessrs. j j. and G. Collis; competition putting, Mr. H. Turner; quoits, Air. L. Clark; chainstepping, Mr. G. Davey; nail driving, Air. A. Divehall; cooking competition, Airs. H. Turner; baby show, Airs. E. Alallett; tea rooms, Alesdames Divehall, Davey aud assistants. The winners of the competitions were:— Stall exhibits, Airs. Cummings and Alessrs. N. Turner and E. Cooper; sponge, Aliss J. Collis 1, Airs. H. Turner 2; shortbread, Miss J. Collis 1, Airs. M. Turner 2; scones (children), Miss Pat Turner 1, Aliss N. Davey 2; babies, Alaire Jackson and Megan Burmiester equal 1, special Colin Cohr; chainstepping, Mrs. G. Burmiester and 11. Alildon; nail driving, G. Davey; ball' throwing, Alargaret Collis 1, Nola Prate 2; juniors, Audrey Passey 1, > Phyllis Cohr 2; chainstepsing, Audrey i Passey 1, Norma Davey 2, Julie Guy; j swimming races, girls (senior), B. ! Betty Prouse gave a demonstration of the method used in teaching children to swim, and ' also some exhibition swimming. Atl the conclusion of these events, the chairman of the school committee presented the prizes and the following swimming certificates: —Fifty yards and over, Betty Prouse, Joan Dave}’, Pat Turner, Nola Pratt, Norma Davey, Ruth Burmiester and Arthur Cooper; learners’ certificate, Julie Guy, Janet Cummins, Beryl Mallett, Joyce Yule, Alargaret Collis, Joan Burmiester, Alarion Guy, Tony Kearins, Bob Divehall, Trevor Collis and Colin Teague. At the conclusion of the afternoon the goods not sold were auctioned, adding further to the funds. Tennis On Saturday afternoon a team of eight Technical Old Students played members of the local club. Heavy rain tho previous night having made the grass courts unplayable Air. and Airs. H. Turner gave tho use of their hard court. A light rain prevented the completion of all the games, the sets when play ceased being 9 to 3 in favour of Kairanga. Details as follows:—Singles: Aliss J. Collis beat Aliss T. Coyle 6—3; Miss N. Alallett beat J. Cameron 6—3; Al. Divehall beat Ralph Morgan 6—3; J. AlcGrail lost to K. Lane I—6. Ladies’ Doubles: Aliases I. Passey and F. Eglinton beat Alisses P. Donovan and M. Barrie 6—4; Alisses Collis and Alallett beat Alisses Coyle and Cameron 6—5. Alen’s Doubles: W. Harrison and D. Eglinton beat Ray Alorgan and IT. Newson 6—-4; Al. Divehall and J. AleGrail lost to Ralph Alorgan and R. Lnne 4 —6. Combined Doubles: Alias F. Eglinton and W. Harrison beat Miss P. Donovan and Ray Alorgan 6—2; Aliss I. Passey and D.
