Double Drowning at Murchison
NELSON. jJan. 8. A bi’Other aud sister lost their lives I y drowning in the Buller river, near Jurchison on Saturday afternoon. They were: Mr. William Thomas Borkin, single, j aged 37, shop assistant, of Murchison, j Miss Dulcie Veronica Borkin, aged 18, j clerk, also of Murchison. Together with Mr Lyall Mcßride, the Borkins went for a swim in the river, in a fairly large swimming hole. After a few minutes the girl was noticed to be out of her depth, and Mr Mcßride went to her assistance, but • hen she struggled he himself got into fflculties. Mr Borkin then went to lelp them, but Mr Mcßride had let the lrl go and she disappeared. Mr Mcßride managed to gain the shore n an exhausted condition. Mr Borkin then disappeared. ‘ Both bodies were recovered.
