Turkey on a War Footing
WATCHING GERMAN TROOP MOVES Received Sunday, 7.30 p.m. ISTANBUL, Jan. 4. A Bill was introduced in the Turkish Assembly at Ankara on Friday providing that all conscripts at present serving the normal period of eighteen months ’ military training are to remain an extra year. It is understood the Bill, which is to pass on Monday, was introduced as a result of the unsettled conditions in the Balkans, particularly the reports of German troop movements. There is no information regarding tha exact number affected, but it is understood if Turkey mobilised all her available classes she could put over 2,500,000 in uniform.
Official quarters admit that a considerable number are at present mobilised and Turkey is “on a war footing.”
