Intensifying wartime control the Japanese Government has decided to invoke the national mooiiisaLou iav\* article authorising trade control whereby a Minister may designate, res trie l or prohibit articles imported or exported. Tne Prime Minister (i/rince is-onoye; explaining the invocation of this and also other articles including p.ess control for the protection of fed me secrets, asserted that they were necessitated for the perfecting of national defence due to Japan’s serious situation alter signing the Tripartite Pact. The reference has caused considerable speculation, it is recalled tnat since Japan joined the Axie„ American shipments of vital war materials have been restricted and the United states and Britain have increased financial aid to China. The newspaper Chugai said Japan may be compelled to ‘ * utilise the Tripartite Pact to the fullest extent” if the United States does not change its present anti-Japan attitude, which allegedly with Britain’s co-operation aims at the economic blockade of Japan.
