Good Fields Engaged at Bulls

WIN-AND-PLACE BETTING The Rangitikei Racing Club’ a popular spring meeting will do held on the club’s course at Bulls to-day. Wonderfully good fields have been carded and there is every prospect of exciting racing. The first race is timed to start at 12.15 p.m. and the betting will be win-and-place. .Thero are 14 acceptors in tho Trial Stakes and the form disclosed to date suggests that the favourites will include Glen Birman, Desert Sun, Silverhope and Star Zone. Tho Rangitikei Plate, over a mile and a distance, is for amateur riders. Among those likely to be fancied are Gold Bridge, Rhodes, Stella Lux and Hokumai, Tho Sandon Hack Hurdles has drawn a field of thirteen, including War Lap, which has been rehandicapped to carry 10.11. Kincora, Brazil and Haile Selassie make an interesting trio on the minimum, but it is probable the favourite will be Dorado, Lucullus Boy or War Lap. There is a grand field accepted for the hack sprint and the issue is very open. Valiant Lady, All Bunsby and Colerica have won recently and others that have been in the money are Sweet Anne, Newbury Queen and Waimutu. It is likely the betting will point to Valiant Lady, Waimutu, All Bunsby and Sweet Anno.

The J. F. McKelvie Memorial has drawn a high-class field including the New Zealand Cup candidate, Taurangi, and Du Maurier, winner of last year’s Manawatu Cup. The others are Little Robin (winner of tho Heath cote Handicap at Riccarton), Aurora’s Star (in great fettle), Hunting Cat (a Manawatu Cup winner), Meamea (runner-up to The Buzzer in the Ling Memorial at Otaki), Dark Eagle (a Connolly Handicap winner), Dynasty (a close second in this race last year), Trebor, Colossal Chief, Don Quex and Rustcsu. Wellfancied runners might be Taurangi, Aurora’s Star, Little Robin and Dynasty.

Another big field will parade for the Parewanui Hack Handicap, which will be decided over seven furlongs. Several of tho acceptors are paid up for in other races and the field is likely to be reduced before starting time. There is a chance that the result will come as a surprise, but a line through recent form suggests that the favourites are likely to be Sanction, Sir Rabbi, Curtail and Kot.ua.

The open sprint has attracted an acceptance of eight ‘.including the bracketed Red Cat and Tuatara. Footloose ran well enough at the Waverley meeting last Mondav to suggest t v at he has a good chance with 9.0. Black Robe, a winner at the Stratford meeting. will he one of the favourites. Race Call, last year’s winner under 7.10. Has onlv 7.12 to carry, but his recent form has not been as good as was the case twelve months ago. Wings of Sonr, who has now run out of hack ranks, has been rehandicapped 51b. for his win at Hawera. Red Cat and Tuatara will both bo ,making their first appearance of the season, but Sen Link ran a good race at Stratford and was a winner af New Plymouth in August. Black Robe, Footloose and Sea Link may carry most money. \’ho day will conclude with the Farewell Hack over five furlongs and the favourites are likely to include Pas de Cheval, Zest, Flying Spy and Royal Consort..
