New Coast Barrage Greets Night Raiders

LONDON, Odt. 30. Raiders attempting to reach London on Tuesday night stumbled on a new and intensive anti-aircraft barrage covering the popular route across the south-east coast. The barrage is reported to have been most effective. It engaged tho enemy planes for a considerable distance inland from the coast. Many of the raiders unloaded their bombs in fields and turned back. Observers recently sighted strange types of bombers, possibly Italian, approaching the coast under escort of large formations of Messerschmitts. Tho strangers quickly retreated when intercepted, and did not succeed in dropping a bomb on land.
